If you’re a female that has not adopted a regular exercise routine but know you should, here’s study-supported evidence that makes it increasingly obvious that there’s no better time to start than now.
Women who exercise regularly have a significantly lower risk of an early death or fatal cardiovascular event than men who exercise regularly, even when women put in less effort, according to a study released by the NIH. Another study, conducted by China’s Xiamen University, found that women derive equal health benefits with only half the exercise time. To
break it down further…
Mortality risk: A study found that women who did strength training had a 19% reduced risk of death, compared to 11% for men.
Cardiovascular health: Women saw a 30% reduction in cardiovascular mortality risk from strength training, versus an 11% reduction for men.
Physiological factors: Women tend to have higher capillary density in muscles and more efficient blood flow during exercise, which contributes to these relative benefits.
Principle of diminishing returns: Since women often start at lower levels of physical activity, they can achieve significant health improvements with less effort, which is especially true for resistance training.
If you’re listening to that small voice telling you that you’re too busy, too old, too out of shape, etc., ignore it. Instead, invest in your health and give yourself a gift that will yield a multitude of benefits now, and well into the future.
